About Us

Established by Arthur Jones in 1955, Perth Monumental Works has provided a large range of custom made monuments in various cemeteries throughout Western Australia.

Arthur Jones was born in Gingin and attended the local school. At 14 he left school and worked on a number of farms and stations. When he turned 18 he joined the Air Force and was assigned to the Marine section. Much of his time was spent in this section stationed in Darwin. From Darwin with his fellow crewmen they braved the Timor and Coral seas rescuing a number of pilots from their sinking craft.

In 1955 he started up his own Company as Perth Monumental Works (PMW) with a small office near Karrakatta Cemetery. In 1965 he moved to the current location in Great Eastern Highway in Redcliffe. Since 1955 Perth Monumental Works has erected hundreds of monuments throughout Western Australia’s city and country cemeteries. Many monuments have been freighted to some of the more remote areas throughout WA.

Our Staff

At present there are eight fully qualified stonemasons employed by PMW. Some of these stonemasons have overseas qualifications, trained in the UK, Ireland and Italy. They are highly skilled and able to carve many of our monuments from Italian marble or local granites at our factory in Redcliffe. (Some of our staff have been trained on-
site as we always have an apprentice in training.)

Our Equipment

As well as selling imported monuments many are made in our factory. To cut the large blocks of granite PMW has a huge touch-screen operated saw. These pieces are then cut into smaller pieces ready for use. Once shaped, they are placed on the two metre long automatic polisher ready for finishing.

To facilitate lifting and moving the heavy pieces of granite PMW has an overhead gantry in the factory with a large tractor type crane ready to assist. Smaller pieces are moved around with a “speedy”
forklift. Once a monument is taken to the Cemetery for installation, staff use a small bobcat type machine, an Avant to assist the installation. This enables staff to take every care in correctly installing the finished product.
